The 2024 presidential election is capturing more and more attention these days.
Recent polls have shown that strong majorities of Americans don’t believe Biden or Trump should be candidates in the next White House race. However, Biden’s confirmed multiple times that he’s going to run again.
Trump’s hinted at running for the White House too.
Trump’s loyalist supporters are very much in favor of a 2024 candidacy for him. Although the same can’t be said for every single Republican.
In fact, Yahoo News reports that most GOP senators are questioning whether or not Trump even has a chance in the next presidential election.
Reviewing Concerns From Republican Lawmakers
GOP senators are anonymously commenting on a potential Trump 2024 candidacy and the political baggage that could ultimately keep this run from being successful.
For starters, many Republicans are concerned about the optics of the January 6 Capitol riots, followed by the January 6 committee’s work. GOP members believe this reflects poorly on Trump and would taint him in a presidential election.
The main reason I would prefer DeSantis over Trump in a hypothetical 2024 matchup is you will never get accountability for Covid fraud under a future President Trump. He is too proud of the vaccines & won’t fully expose the massive levels of criminal fraud in the Covid response.

Another Republican senator who spoke anonymously claimed that most GOP senators don’t even want Trump to run. According to one lawmaker, he can count on one hand the number of Republicans in the Senate who are enthusiastic about a Trump 2024 candidacy.
Furthermore, the rise in popularity of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (notably talk of him running in 2024) has created an impression that Trump’s power over the Republican Party is fading.
On top of this, GOP senators believe Trump will face more competition in the Republican primary than some people might expect. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell hinted at this earlier in the month when questioned about a Trump 2024 run.
Controversy Surrounding Trump’s Possible Run
Amid talk about DeSantis running for the White House, the New York Times released a report claiming that Trump would declare his 2024 candidacy ahead of the usual timeframe to push back against the momentum of other candidates.
Trump denied the claims made by the Times. However, the Republican National Committee certainly had something to say about it.

The RNC warned that if Trump does not wait until after the midterms to announce he’s running for president again, it’ll stop paying for his legal expenses.
When candidates run in primary races, the RNC has a responsibility to remain impartial until a winner is declared.
Aside from DeSantis and Trump, possible contenders in the GOP 2024 primary could include former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
