Walgreens Provides New Update on Abortion Pills

Across the nation, the abortion debate is not going away anytime soon. This is one of the most polarizing issues in politics, with some people having clear-cut perspectives on the matter, whereas other approaches are more nuanced.

Tensions over abortion skyrocketed in the wake of Roe v. Wade falling in June 2022. Even in the months since then, with abortion going back to the states, there has still been conflict about which legislation should pass, what provisions should be in this legislation, and more.

Some of the latest talking points of the abortion debate deal with the abortion pill. According to Newsmax, Walgreens just released some new information on how it will go about handling the abortion pill.

Walgreens Takes a Stance

As of right now, Walgreens has confirmed that it will not sell abortion pills in every single state where doing so is legal. This decision comes after multiple GOP attorneys general warned both Walgreens and CVS that they’d be in violation of various laws if they supply the abortion pill to consumers.

Some of the states where Walgreens will not sell pills in spite of not being currently prohibited by law from doing so are Kansas, Iowa, Montana, and Alaska.

Opponents of the abortion pill have warned about the health risks it poses to not just unborn babies, but also to the women taking the pills. Americans with these concerns have also stated that supporters of the abortion pill are not being truly forthcoming about the health risks tied to this drug.

Despite Walgreens declining to sell abortion pills in certain states that have not expressly prohibited this, the company is working to become certified to sell these pills in other states.

So far, these states in question have not yet been released to the general public. Though it’s likely only a matter of time before more information comes out about this.

America Reacts

Responses to Walgreens’ decision have largely fallen across partisan lines. Those who oppose the abortion pill are praising the company for its decision, stating it made the right call.

On the other hand, pro-abortion folks are ripping into Walgreens. Some are stating they’ll be boycotting the pharmacy and turning elsewhere.

On social media, Americans on either side of this issue are weighing in with their thoughts about whether or not they feel Walgreens made the right move. Now, it just remains to be seen what CVS and other pharmacies choose to do.
